FID International a Ripoff

Originally posted: 2009-01-06 by Fech

Well it all started in October 2008 when I called to have my car moved from New York to France.
I was assured on the phone that the car will be delivered on January 1st 2009 at the latest.
I received a threatening letter from the collection department to tell me I need to pay my bill before I even received an original bill.
They apologized for it.
Well, it's January 6 2009 and the car is still sitting there, I was told the money for the shipment would be taken when the car leaves the port, it was actually taken a month ago, when I told them, nobody knew I already paid for it, the person I was dealing with never returns call, refuses to let me speak to a supervisor, refuses to give me a date when the car will be shipped, and tells me it's my fault if the car is still sitting in New York because I should have chosen a more expensive type of container if I had a deadline (which had never been discussed when the transaction began).

I finally found the phone number for a "supervisor", I have been leaving messages for a week, still no call back.
I am pretty sure it's far from over now, I wrote an email to the BBB, I will never recommend that company to anyone of course.
At FID International, the customer is "always wrong"!

If you've decided you just don't have quite enough hell in your life, then by all means use FID International for your overseas move.
I chose them for their low rates and BBB A+ rating. You will now note they have a B+ rating and I intend to see what I can do about that as I feel it is still too generous.
I have so many complaints about them, that I'll just stick to the high points.
They originally quoted me about $2100 to ship from Tennessee to Australia.
That has now more than doubled.
Some of the charges are of my choosing, but the majority are not.
All the document fees, preparation and bracing of furniture, et al they claim to include in the quote are then charged to you after pick up.

They also claim my items required more space than originally quoted and tacked on another $300 or so, which is false.
They failed to send a mover on the appointed date causing a tremendous hardship as my sister had flown there from DC to oversee the move for me and was stuck in a nearly deserted rural area, in my dead mother's house, with minimum furniture and no refrigerator or TV, and dodgy cell phone service.

When they finally did show up about 5 days later, they sent one (1) person who enlisted the help of my 45 year old sister for the heavy lifting.
When I lodged a complaint with the BBB, they responded that the missed date was MY fault, which everyone (even FID International) knows is a lie.

After pickup, I heard nothing from them until I got a threatening email saying I was in default and subject to an additional $500 hold fee.
Never got a final invoice or any correspondence whatsoever, tho they claim in the BBB response they tried me several times.
They will just out and out lie.
I kept emailing asking for a final balance and the mindless drone just kept sending me emails telling me I'd better pay up.
Pick up was 3rd week of August and I have heard nothing from them about when my shipment will arrive.
They just ignore you.
It is now 25th of November.
Lisa Hunt did call me (sounding drunk) 14th of September slurring and profusely apologizing about my problems and promised she would give my case VIP treatment and that I didn't have to pay anything I didn't think I owed, "even if it's just a dollar."
When she subsequently contacted me by email, she offered me a paltry $200 discount on the more than $1, 000 I feel overcharged.

If you check other scam websites, they are notorious for driving you to the point of homicide and then contacting you full of apologies and sweetness and light.
Then the process starts all over again.
This isn't just some crazy mix-up or misunderstanding.
This is a deliberate act of fraud and, unfortunately, I'm not alone.
Just Google them and see for yourself.

FID International not a good choice

Post subject: Re: FID International not a good choice

Eventually got a reply from FID International. They have had our stuff for over 2 months and only now is it to be consolidated and an expected UK ship arrival date has been given to us for the 17th November. So much for the average 45 to 60 days door to door.
I guess that with unloading, customs and arranging for final delivery we might be lucky to see our stuff by this Christmas.I cannot say that they have broken contract, but they don't give me a warm feeling that all is well and properly organised.

One and the same.
Just been stiffed for a further 250 GBP for the Terminal Handling Charge. So much for requesting a full door to door all fees quote. We now expect to get our shipped items around mid December, that's over 4 months from collection. I just hope it all arrives in the same number of pieces as it left.

These people kept increasing the cost of my move.
They claim I am in default of my contract because I had not completed my payment.
I NEVER received a final invoice or any invoice for that matter prior to this past due/default notice, which still didn't include my balance.
I had to ask them for it two or three times.
I have never even received a revised quote.
They have added a lot of charges that were supposed to be included in the quote.
Nancy Roberts of FID International kept sending me terse and intimidating emails threatening to put an additional $500 hold fee on my shipment and to hold my shipment up if I didn't send them all the money they wanted within 24 hours.
I informed her that I intended to contact the BBB and dispute the amount.
She still insisted on the payment.
Before the move, I authorized a deposit payment of $1405.00 to FID International from my American Express card.
American Express informs me they took $1641.20 US dollars.

They botched the pickup.
It was supposed to be August 22nd.
The first mover called on the 21st wanting a credit card number and wondering if there was any furniture in the move.
FID International was supposed to pay the mover.
He forwarded me his email from FID International and indeed they did not send him the complete list.
They did not get a mover there until the 26th.
My sister had flown to Memphis from D.C. to close the estate and take care of this move for me. They cost her additional days off work and she had to reschedule everything else.

They only sent one (1) person and my 46 year old sister had to help him with the heavy lifting.
I heard nothing until September 10th when they sent the default notice.
The original quote plus my authorized add-ons was $2795.00.
The last estimation I received was for $3865.
They also insisted I pay $350 for a crate for a granite table.
This was on my original list of items, and a quote was given to include it.
It was only later after thinking about it and trying to figure out a way to jack up my bill that they came up with this.
After paying the $1641.20, I should have owed around $2600.
They insisted on $3372.85 or they would slap me with a hold fee of $500 and hold up my shipment.

I thought I had thoroughly researched them online before signing up. Since then, there are numerous complaints to be found about them and their practices. BEWARE!

We used these clowns FID International in 2007 to move over to Oz.
They were were easy to deal with until we paid their charges, which included the traditional unquoted extras.
After that the guy went AWOL and palmed us off onto a girl who was useless.

The consignment arrived three weeks late, in the interim the wife, our three kids and me were camping out in a friends apartment sleeping on the floor.

There must be better moving companies than this out there.

FID International Avoid at all costs

This is one sleazy operation!!!!
We requested a quote through a website for moving household goods from the US to the UK and received a telephone call from Ron at FID International.
We received a quote from FID International couple of days later, which we accepted.
Later on I found out this gentleman is actually called Dave, and also by then realized why he operates under an alias.

We signed a contract with FID International which included wrapping the furniture, loading this into a container, shipping this to the UK, and delivering and unloading the contents to our address in the UK for a fixed price.

First the movers arrived a day early to load, which was not a great start as we were still packing the boxes and were not ready.
A different crew returned the following day, and then stood around for three and half hours waiting for the container which was late.
Once the container was loaded they left leaving this unsecured in the street!

A couple of weeks later, whilst the goods were in transit, we received an email from the company advising that they were charging an extra $1,500 over the contract price as the container had taken longer to load than expected.
They also charged for packing boxes, even though none were supplied.
When speaking to the President I explained that the contract did not provide for any of these extra charges, to which he retorted “I don’t care what the contract says, I am not losing money on moving your goods”.
He repeatedly refused to deliver our goods until this was paid and tried to claim that he had told Ron/Dave to renegotiate the price two days before the move, and as he had not done this, he was responsible for any problems.

The crew they hired in the UK, were professional.
After a couple of hours the foreman asked me to come and look at something.
He showed me our nearly new king size bed which had been loaded unwrapped and unprotected (although we paid for the beds to be wrapped) and was dirty and torn.
In addition they had somehow managed to lose parts of the base, presumably as a result of throwing these in the container loose.
Needless to say, my requests for compensation for the ruined bed have gone completely unanswered and I am now hiring an attorney in Florida to sue.

I only wish I had taken the time to check these people out online before contracting with them my experience appears totally consistent with that of other victims.

FID International - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
